Accents: Good News; Bad News
As a follow up to the posh twatty accents thread, two new surveys have revealed:

The British accent is the world's most attractive (or at least the Hollywood ideal of it)

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/the-british-accent-is-the-worlds-most-attractive-according-to-poll-10032596.html

THE Essex accent has been voted the least attractive in Britain.

No. The Black Country accent is the worst in the English speaking world, by a considerable distance.

What-oh.

I like Black Country, if only because it's the closest you can get to the original Anglo Saxon. Not sure if it's sexy though.

Are you saying that Tipton is the epicentre of Anglo-Saxon culture?

So would you say Essex accent is east London accent or even cockney sounding ? Or is it just very common ? If anyone picks me up on having a common or London accent I say no one minded hearing a common or cockney accent when east London was having the f... Bombed out of it in the war . Strange of me I guess!

I hate the geordie accent always thought Gazza sounded stupid when he spoke Cheryl Cole too.
Most semi intelligent people do not speak with a broad full on accent anyway and personally i do not think that is a bad thing.
I am not saying accents are a bad thing but they do take away positivity from English Language .

That is how i feel anyway so basically get with the posh programme, 'speak English well, do not well the speak'.

Re: Accents: Good News; Bad News
The Cockney accent is the best.

Totally bastardised into something horrific in Essex though, whilst being subtly toned down into something pleasant in Kent.

Studies show that this is down to people from Essex being "wannabe" Cockneys, over-exaggerating and creating a sad comedy version of the accent, and also the lifestyle. This applies to the original residents and also the Cockneys who have moved there.

On the other hand, people from Kent appear to have been a lot more relaxed and cool about Cockney migration. It's a success story where the lifestyles and accents have gelled creating a lovely local dialect and a far less brash and crude existence.

Most attractive female accent - French, esp speaking English.

Most attractive male account - no, I don't think any male accents are attractive.

The sing-songy Trinidad accent is marvellous. I used to work with someone from there and would just ask him unnecessary questions just to hear him speak.

I have no idea what my accent is, though defjam thinks I sound 'posh' which baffled me until I remembered he lives in Graves End.

Only posh people say Graves End instead of Gravesend.

I love accents and I think people who look down on them are shallow wankers. If everyone had a bog standard boring English accent which has an arrogant sound to it I'd kill someone.

Those types knock around Shoreditch.

The Cockney accent for me reigns supreme and it's a shame it has to be replocated outside of London to stay alive.
